Calleary welcomes Ballina investment

Ballina Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has welcomed the announcement of a €3.2 million investment in Ballina under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.

“I am very pleased that the Government seems to have finally realised that there is life outside the Pale and more specifically west of the River Shannon. The proposed transformation of Ballina’s 18th century Military Barracks into a digital hub is a very exciting project and one that has potential to deliver much-needed high-end employment opportunities to the region,” said Deputy Calleary.

“I wish to congratulate all the stakeholders in this exciting project including Mayo County Council, Moy Valley Resources, NUIG and the international private investor SMAKS.

“It is important that this exciting proposal now becomes a reality and is quickly moved through the remaining funding and the planning permission process unlike other projects which have been announced but not delivered,” he said.

“I also think it is important that maximum local return be received from this investment-Mayo County Council should design the project in a manner that ensures that as many local contractors can qualify to tender to build and develop it.”

“For my part and that of the Fianna Fáil members of Mayo County Council, we will do all that we can to move the project forward as quickly as possible, and also ensure that the provision of adequate Broadband for the entire town and region is kept as a priority issue” concluded Calleary.
