Homebase examinership highlights lack of Govt action on retail sector
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, Dara Calleary TD, has reacted to the news that an interim examiner has been appointed to the retailer Homebase. Deputy Calleary commented: “The news that Homebase has entered into examinership again highlights the very precarious position retailers of all sizes are in. Businesses throughout the country are struggling to survive and the Government has continuously failed to provide the adequate supports needed to help them. “My thoughts are with the 558 staff at this difficult and uncertain time and I hope the interests of the workers will be central to the examinership process. “The retail sector is absolutely critical to our economy. Cost Plus Sofas news another blow to retail sector

Many have tried to contact their local store and have been unable to. “What is of greater concern is how the hundreds of workers […]

Deputy Calleary has welcomed the High Court decision. “This is a very significant judgement, not just for Bewley’s but potentially for all of those High Street retailers that are stifled upward only rent contracts,” said Deputy Calleary. “This case further demonstrates the crippling unfairness of upward only rent contracts and the enormous difficulties experienced retailers locked in those contracts. “Today’s ruling could mark the start of a breakthrough in the fight against upward only rents.
