Mayo loses out in IDA investment – Calleary

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs Dara Calleary has expressed concerns about the lack of IDA investment in Co Mayo over the past two years. It comes after IDA today published figures showing a net increase of 6,570 jobs created in IDA supported companies last year. Deputy Calleary said that while Dublin and other urban bases are benefiting, Co Mayo continues to lose out. Baxter job cuts a major blow to Mayo economy

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs Dara Calleary has said the news that one of Co Mayo’s largest employers is cutting its workforce in Castlebar comes as a major blow to the local economy. Deputy Calleary said, “My first thoughts are with the staff at Baxter in Castlebar and their families. Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs Dara Calleary has said the news of 80 job losses at Homecare Medical Supplies comes as a major blow to East Mayo. Mayo must benefit from pledge on Garda recruitment

Mayo TD Dara Calleary has said comments by Justice Minister Alan Shatter that Garda recruitment was recommence next year must be delivered upon.  Deputy Calleary said extra gardaí were needed for patrols across the Midlands as the force has been starved of resources. Members of the Oireachtas Enterprise Committee will see first-hand the challenges facing businesses in Mayo and Galway next week at the invitation of Mayo Deputy Dara Calleary. 57 ghost estates in Mayo now eligible for Property Tax – Calleary

Mayo Deputy Dara Calleary called on the Government to explain why it is forcing property taxes on homeowners in at least 57 ghost estates across Co Mayo. Homeowners in these estates were rightly exempt from the household charge last year, but the Government has now said they are eligible to pay property taxes. Just 5 estates across the entire county will still be exempt. Mobility Allowance cut to hit 160 people in Mayo

Mayo Fianna Fáil Deputy Dara Calleary has revealed that approximately 175 people with severe disabilities in Co Mayo will see a 20% cut in State supports from July. According to new figures obtained by Fianna Fáil, 160 people with disabilities in Co Mayo who have been in receipt of the Mobility Allowance will see a dramatic reduction in their income from July. It follows the Government’s decision last month to axe the scheme. In addition to this A further 15 people will be hit by the cut to the Motorised Transport Grant.
